A Flat White and a Matcha Red Bean Cake
Frankly speaking, I'm having a really bad writer's block when this cafe comes to mind. Probably because I've been to this cafe numerous times often with a person staying close by and knowing the owner and due to that, I've always had quite a good impression of it. But as for today, it was the first time that I step foot in this cafe all by myself and also for the fact that the owner was not there. I'm having mixed opinions running through my mind after today's experience and I'm not sure whether to put it as good or bad.
This cafe is known for it's insane crowd that comes during the hours of the night and it's packed to the brim on Friday nights and weekends as well. Hence, it's not very single diner friendly with the many people around and the limited seating. In fact, I've never seen any single diner that comes in here. The ones that I do see will eventually have a friend walk in and greet them and so it's just them waiting for the friend/colleague/peer/associate or whatever.
During my time coming in which is approximately dinnertime, there's almost nobody there. Only 3 tables were occupied and when I was leaving around 8pm, there's only 1 table left that's occupied with patrons. So, I guess during these times would be a great time for a single person to come?
This place is also famously known for it's Nitro Coffee. It's the first place that I've ever heard of such a thing and tried. Used to be, every single time that I come, there's bound to be none. It was the best Nitro Coffee that I've ever had and still is but the last I've tried wasn't as good anymore. Probably a slip up on that day. Other places I know of that serves Nitro Coffee is Artisan Roast TTDI and Underground Societe in Sunway.
But today, I went for the Flat White instead. I first got served the Matcha Red Bean Cake. At first bite, it was soft while the frosting on top were moderate in texture. It tasted sweet....almost too sweet for my palate. Borderline. The Matcha and Red Bean combination was a bit weird for my taste. I'm not sure on whether to put it as okay or not. I guess I should say that it's acceptable for my taste.
As for the Flat White, it's a little too disappointing to me. It's way too mild. I can hardly taste the coffee and almost felt watery. But I can taste loads of milk. I don't think it even qualifies as a Flat White. I would say it would pass off more as a Latte though it's still a little too weak for a Latte too. But one thing good is that eating the cake and drinking the coffee combines well together and has the outcome of a new taste every time I do so. Sometimes it taste fruity, sometimes it's nutty, sometimes it's like an almond taste and sometimes it softens the red bean.
Total Wallet Damage:
RM24. RM11 for the Latte, excuse me, I mean Flat White and RM13 for the cakes. Not sure if GST and service charge is imposed since I did not get the receipt and I forgot to ask for it but I highly doubt it.
Final Verdict:
5/10. I'm sorry. As much as I love this place due to the many pleasant memories that I hold so dear to my heart, I just felt a different kind of mood today. It just doesn't jive well with me and I just don't feel like returning after today's experience. It's okay that the WiFi is down but I just felt so uncomfortable sitting on those hard chairs. And even though mine has a backrest, it might as well be a stool because it's just not natural to lean on it.
